Sponsor Spotlight ~ Starrytime Keepsakes

With the end of the year quickly approaching, I find myself reflecting on the past year. I can't tell you how thankful I am to have the ability to not only write here on the blog and share it with so many people who take the time to read what I have to say; but to have companies who are helping to support me in doing so.

Sponsorship is really an equal partnership. While these fantastic companies help to allow me to do what I love doing (writing about what I love), I really do enjoy supporting them and promoting their companies with their endeavors!

Like the reviews and giveaways I do here on Family and Life in Las Vegas, I am choosy about who I partner with in sponsorship. I want to make sure they are a good fit for my readers, so we can both have the most positive outcome.

Starrytime Keepsakes was first introduced to me a couple of months ago. As many of you may remember, I hosted a review and giveaway of Blanket Full of Love. This story truly has such special meaning to our family. I don't think I have read this book without being caught up in the beauty of the words.

Really, this story is such a perfect gift for anyone. Your child, a friend's child, a grandchild. It will be a treasure not only for your child, but for you as well. This book continues to be a favorite for nightly story time.

I asked Kim, the creator and author of Blanket Full of Love, to share a bit about the story with Family and Life in Las Vegas readers.

Starrytime Keepsakes, publishers of the touching award-winning personalized children's book Blanket Full of Love, is a favorite of editors and celebrities parents, including Gwyneth Paltrow, Brooke Shields, Christine and Kevin Costner, Jason Priestley, Kimberly and Dennis Quaid and Isla Fisher.

Blanket Full of Love features your child¹s name and likeness (there are 20 beautiful watercolor illustration sets to choose from) along with a personal dedication page (including a photo upload option) and the child's name throughout the book. The story tells of a blanket that reminds the child of your love as s/he grows.

It makes a memorable baby, birthday, holiday, or christening gift for children 0 to 6 years of age. Blanket Full of Love personalized blankets are also available separately.

I hope you will remember Blanket Full of Love from Starrytime Keepsakes when you are looking for your next gift. This is a story full of love that will have a special place in your heart. Thank you Kim for your Sponsorship on Family and Life in Las Vegas.

Toddler Wonderland Giveaway ~ Scholastic Books

** This post was written by The Life of a Sippy Cup Mom**

You may know by now that I am such a huge fan of books and I am so happy to see that Hayden is too!

He loves to "read" and a lot of times he will wake up in the morning but want to spend about an hour in his crib with his books!

You have no idea the happy dance when I was contacted by Little Scholastic Books and also when they agreed to do a giveaway for Toddler Wonderland!

From the most trusted name in learning comes Little Scholastic, a developmental publishing program that introduces reading to babies and toddlers ages birth to three years. Each book features rhyming, repetitive, or predictable text, interactive components, and familiar subjects—all formatted to delight babies, toddlers, and parents. Visit www.littlescholastic.com for expert advice and articles, parenting tips, book information, and more.

We were sent 2 books for Hayden to review!

Alphabet Book

Sing the alphabet song with this appealing, hands-on format! Bold and bright, this tactile board book features letters to name and objects to touch.

Peek-A-Zoo

This oversized book has everything -- textures, mirrors, glitter, lift-the-flaps, and more! Peek behind the flaps and inside the holes to find hidden friends!

Hayden absolutely loved these books! We read them several times a day and he can easily identify an octopus now because of the Alphabet book!

The colors in the book are SO bright and it is really easy to read to Hayden. It uses simple words so after awhile Hayden was saying the words with me.

Emily over at Family and Life in Las Vegas received three books for her Squish!

"Squish loved the books, but his absolute favorite was the Colors senses book. He pulls that one out over and over again. What I really enjoyed about Scholastic books was the wonderful colors, and the fun way they teach your toddler. We are a big fan of books in this house, and Scholastic Books continue to be a favorite!"

Colors

This board book features favorite animals in bright and bold colors for children to name and touch. Review basic colors with this hands-on format!

Welcome Winter

This bright, tactile board book celebrates a first encounter with the coldest season: winter. Bold, simple illustrations and textures show what a child first sees, hears, touches, and feels. And no matter how blowy or snowy it may be outside, this child ends up safe and warm in Mommy's arms.

Zoo

An intricately designed board book with colorful art that leaps off the page and can literally be pulled out of the page as well. Each spread is designed to nest a removable flash card. When all four flash cards are removed, they can be reconnected outside of the book to create a four-piece puzzle. Zoo is a three-in-one reading experience: book, flash card, and puzzle.

Lauren over at Crazy About My Baybah received two books for Baybah!

Petting Farm

This innovative board book format provides a fun and stimulating way for curious preschoolers to learn about farm animals by seeing, hearing, and touching them. The book comes with a 20-minute DVD that brings the animals to life!

Shapes

Bold and bright, this tactile board book features everyday objects to name and touch. Review basic shapes with this hands-on format!

Reading Toddler

Baybah loved petting the animals in the Petting Farm book.

Reading Toddler

The Shapes book is one of Baybah's new favorites!

The 20 minute video that comes with the Petting Farm book, really brought the book to life.

CLOSED Ruckus Media Group ~ Children's Digital Apps Giveaway!

I have to say, I am pretty jealous about this next giveaway. I am not kidding when I tell you that it made me want to go out and buy an iPad, iTouch, or iPhone.

Recently Ruckus Media Group partnered with some pretty amazing celebrities to offer children great digital applications that are both entertaining and educational. In a recent press release Founder and CEO of Ruckus Media Group Rick Richter was quoted as saying,

“Our applications are ideal for today’s families who are perpetually ‘on the go.’ It’s our goal to immerse children in a world of imagination.”

Each of the read-play-record applications is available from Apples iTunes app store for the affordable price of $3.99 each. They all feature not only the classic story, but also the ability to record your own voice for a personal story telling experience!

Brodie and The Yeti ~ Review and Giveaway

Recently I was approached with an opportunity to read and review two stories about to real life dogs name Brodie and The Yeti. Since we are huge book fans in this house, I knew this was an opportunity we couldn't pass by. I was pretty sure my son would like these books. He has a real love for doggies. A pair of puppies at a park we went to was first time I heard him laugh out loud and giggled at something not of my of the Hubs doing. He has since continued to love laughing at doggies, and seems to favor smaller dogs like Brodie and The Yeti.

The day the books arrived at our door we pulled them out and dove into reading them. Squishy right away laughed at the little doggies.

Brodie and The Yeti - Book One is a story of family, adoption, friendship, and learning to share.
Brodie and The Yeti - Book Two The Yeti Saves Coco Bunny is a true story about the night that The Yeti saved Coco Bunny and the bond between the animals.

Both stories are super adorable, and the illustrations are wonderful! You really feel like you are
there when you read the books aloud.

Both Brodie and The Yeti books came autographed to my Squish by both the author and the real life dogs!
(How cute are they! And so close to what they look like in the books!)

Dennis Robert Komick is the mind behind the words. His love of his dogs and creativity is very evident in his stories. He is also currently working on interactive games and a website redo to make his stories even more child friendly.

A portion of all sales of the books goes to help dogs in need via several animal rescues and adoption agencies.

Your kiddos are sure to enjoy these stories of two adorable dogs. I know my Squishy sure does! On the Squishy Rating Scale these books rate a Sweet Squishable! A great story for children of all ages.

Blanket Full of Love ~ Starrrytime Keepsakes Review and Giveaway

As many know, my hub's job takes him away for months on end. These deployments were just part of our life until we found out we were expecting our first child. All of the sudden a choice we had made for our lives, was never going to be his choice. It was something he would grow up having to deal with, and learn to understand.

My hubs loves his job, but every time he goes away a little part of my heart would break. And through the months the phone calls and emails would help to heal that break until he returned safely in my arms again. With our Squish, it wouldn't be that simple. How does a little child learn to understand that when a parent leaves (for the day, night, week, or months) it isn't because they don't want to be with them. And it isn't because they don't love them, although many children can worry about just those two things.

This is our second deployment with Squishy here. The first time the hubs left when Squish was 5 months, and returned when he was 9 months. This time he left shortly after his 1st birthday. We video taped Daddy reading books, we look at pictures a lot, we let Squish push the buttons (usually hanging up on Daddy) when he calls. We try very hard to do many things to make sure Squishy understands that just because Daddy isn't here, it doesn't make him love him any less.

When I came across Starrytime Keepsakes and Blanket Full of Love by Kim Freeman, I knew I had to have this story. This book is personalized for your child, and tells the story of a blanket that symbolizes a parent's love. This blanket, like the parent's love, goes everywhere with the child. It helps them to understand that no matter where they are, or how old they are, that love will always be there. Kim wrote this book for her daughter, and then designed a book to be personalized so that every child could read about how they would always be loved.

I personalized the book to make it just for Squish. You can even include a picture and a dedication in the front for your child. Squishy's name is throughout the whole book, and I was able to create a child to look close to what mine looks like.

"I love the sun for days, the moon for night, and you forever." - anonymous
Your sweetness reminds us every day what is truly important in life. I hope this book always reminds you of our love.
Love and Squishes,
Mama and Daddy

"And if your blanket shrinks or fades, or rips or falls apart, Kellan, you know that does not change the love that is in my heart."

This story is absolutely beautiful, and the illustrations by Val Lawton are just perfect! It is a book I know we will treasure for a long time. It is my hope that this will help my baby to understand that Daddy and I both love him no matter where we are, or how old he is. I look forward to seeing my Hubs read it to Squish when he comes home.

"So if you ever need me near or feel a little blue, just wrap your blanket 'round you tight and hear my words to you: Kellan dear, whatever comes wherever you should go, my love is always there for you, I'll always love you so."

Whether you are a family like mine who has a parent who is gone for long periods of time or not, this is the perfect story for all families. You can even personalize the back cover to include your child's name.
"A custom storybook made with love for Our Squishapillar."

On the Squishy rating scale, this starrytime book receives an
Amazingly Squishable
.
(this is not a normal Squishy rating, but this is just that special of a book.)

(Disclaimer: While I did receive a copy of Blanket Full of Love to review, no monetary compensation was given for this review. This is 100% my honest opinion, and may differ from yours.)

Barefoot Books Review and Giveaway!!

To me, books are a way to open up the mind to a world of possibilities. They are a source of comfort, creativity, inspiration, escape, and imagination. You can go anywhere in the world with a book, and you can be anywhere in the world in a book. When I was growing up, we were never told we had to put the book down. My mother believed that during nap time, if we weren’t sleepy we could read till our hearts content. The same held true for night time. It is because of this that books became such a huge part of my life. I hope that I can help to instill a love for books in all my children like my mother did for me.

"Explore. Imagine. Create. Connect. Give Back. That’s what Barefoot Books is all about. It’s exploring other cultures, our planet, ourselves. It’s making time for make-believe and letting imaginations run wild and free. Most of all, it’s about using the power of stories to nourish the creative spark in everyone and strengthen connections with family, the global community, and the earth.” – Barefoot Books on Barefoot Living

Barefoot books is a company that believes like my mother and I do, that books are a fundamental tool to all things human.

The Review:

In my life I have been a babysitter, nanny, daycare teacher, and now a mother. I have read many many Barefoot books in my lifetime. The stories they choose to publish are beautiful. They inspire, and teach. They are fun to read, and beautiful to look at. They are creative, silly, educational, and easy to read again and again. I was thrilled when I received a box in the mail from Barefoot Books. I couldn’t wait to share them with my little Squish. I just knew he would love these stories like he does most all stories.

Since we were leaving for vacation the morning after we got the books, I picked one of the three books they sent and brought it with me. I must have read it at least 40 times during our trip. Squish loves to look at the pictures, and is in the stage where he only lets me read a bit, before he steals the book away to look at it for himself.

We received 3 books to review:

I Wish I Were a Pilot: a story about the many different ways to get from here to there. This is the book we took with us on our trip. Squish loves airplanes, trains, and cars so this book was a huge hit!

Who’s in The Garden?: This was a super fun story that incorporates one of Squishy’s favorite games; peek-a-boo! I can just see him in the future joining in with the main repeating question, “Who’s coming to see how my garden grows.”

Playtime Nursery Rhymes for Little People: This one came with a CD, and the pages were filled with the most amazing hand-sewn pictures. It really is amazing the art they use to tell the stories. Squish was born singing. He sings himself to sleep, and sings along with music all day long, so nursery rhymes are always a big hit here. I loved that some of these brought me back to being a little girl, and was fun for me to learn some new ones to incorporate into our daily routine.

On the Squishy Rating Scale, Barefoot Books receive an Extra Squishable!!

(Disclaimer: The above is 100% my opinion and may differ from yours. While I did receive a few food pouches to review, no monetary compensation was given for this review.)
