Boo-Tacular Recipes ~ Kristen @ The Wilson Family

Hey everyone!

Are you ready for one last great recipe for Mommy's Lil' Monster Bash?

I "met" Kristen through Twitter and was excited to find out that she was originally from St. Louis, where I am!

I love her blog and her cute little son and "talking" to her on Twitter!

She is sharing this super easy, yummy Apple Cobbler recipe with us!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hey y'all! I'm Momma Wilson from The Wilson Family blog. I'm a 28-year-old Northern Belle, originally from St. Louis transplanted to Louisiana almost 6 years ago. I married my Southern gentleman, Mr., and together we our blessed with a busy, blue-eyed boy, Jackson. I work full-time as an account executive and Mr. is an attorney. Parenthood has by far been the most challenging, yet rewarding job we've ever had.
If you know the Wilson family, then you know that this Momma doesn't cook. I tend to be a little domestically challenged at times. The kitchen is the Mr.'s domain at our house, and it's best that way! Being from the Midwest means that I can basically make a casserole and follow an easy recipe. I have a few signature dishes that get me by in life. One of which happens to be Apple Cobbler. With a few apples and some bread you can totally bake this Apple Cobbler and impress. I was even brave enough to try it out on my mother-in-law {who is from the South, enough said} and let's just say I passed the test! I am so excited to be participating in Mommy's Lil' Monster Bash so I can share this easy recipe with all of you. And If you're lucky enough to make it to an apple orchard this fall then I'm really jealous. I'm sure this cobbler would be even better with apples picked with a little TLC. If not, no worries you can buy a bag of apples and cut them up with a little TLC just the same. Or if you're a busy Momma then just buy the bags of pre-cut apples like I do!
Granny Ruth's Apple Cobbler
preheat oven to 350 degrees
grease a 9 x 9 glass baking dish (or larger depending upon the amount you're serving)
peel, slice and dice apples, enough to fill the bottom of a baking dish. this will vary depending on the amount of people you'll be serving.
slice pieces of bread (whatever you have around the house. I love oatmeal bread, so that's what I use) in long strips.
place the pieces of bread on top of the apples.
mix together:
1 cup of sugar
1 stick of melted butter
1 egg
pour the mixture over the bread
sprinkle a little cinnamon on top bake for 40 minutes at 350 degrees serve hot with a scoop of vanilla ice cream enjoy:)
Ghost Post ~ Melissa @ That's Just Crafty!
I'm so excited to introduce Melissa and share her great tutorial on how to make a super cute Halloween Door Sign!
She is one of the craftiest people I know!
In fact, she has a fantastic blog called
Here she is!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`

Let me remind you about myself… My name is Melissa and I can be found at That’s Just Crafty!

If you remember, I shared a great product review over the summer on the Sippy Cup Mom.

I am a wife to my great husband Nick. We have a two and a half year old daughter Genevieve and we are expecting baby #2 in April 2011. And if being a full-time stay-at-home mom with morning sickness doesn’t keep me busy enough, I am currently working on my Masters in Education in Family and Consumer Sciences. Basically that means I want to be a Home Economics teacher and share all my crafting and cooking abilities with the next generation!

Doesn’t that sound fun…I thought so!

I’m so excited that Sippy Cup Mom asked me to be a part of the Halloween Tutorials. I love Crafting, so I knew right away what I wanted to share with you!

I’m going to show you how to make a “BOO” Halloween Door Sign!

It’s very simple to make all you need is:

· 3- 8.5x11 black felt squares (can be found already cut at any fabric store, even Walmart)

· 3 different coordinating Halloween Fabrics

· 1 roll of ribbon

· “B” & “O” paper template (Just made on Microsoft Word)

· Black Thread & a Sewing Machine (not pictured)

Step One:

Center the B and O templates onto the center of the black felt. Cut around the letter. I used my rotary cutter in some spots. Make sure you save the O to use on twice on two black felt squares.

Step Two:

For the insides of the B, I did not cut out while the big letter was on the felt. I took the negative space of the B and used the insides of the paper template that I cut out. For the O’s, I did cut the center with the rest of the letter…they are bigger and easier to cut.

Step Three:

Next you will want to decide the order of your fabrics. Cut enough of the fabric to go behind the cutout of your letter. And go pin happy, pinning the fabric to the back side of the felt letter.

Step Four:

You will then need to sew around the inside edge of each of the letters to secure the fabric in place. If you don’t have a sewing machine, a hot glue gun may also work. You will also want to place your center pieces of the B and O’s onto the fabric, secure with pins, and sew in place (sorry, no picture of that).

Step Five:

And finally you will want to decide on the spacing between your letters and cut the ribbon out. You will also need to decide on the length you want the ribbon on the top of the final sign. Pin all ribbon in place to the back side, connecting the black felt letters together. Also pin the top ribbon in place. You will sew the ribbon into place.

And there you have it - a BOO Halloween Door sign!

This sign could be adapted in many different ways. Change colors, size, fabrics, and sayings for different holidays. It could even be done horizontally instead of vertical in a banner style. Easy, Cute, and Fun! I hope you have fun making your own BOO Halloween Door Sign!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Isn't that the cutest Halloween door sign?
I love it!
Melissa also made the cutest trick or treat bag for her adorable daughter, Genevieve!
Creepy Crafts ~ Michell @ Girl in Air
Today we have two wonderful Tutorials for you. Early we shared Sara's super easy and fun treat bag tutorial, and now we are fortunate to have Michell here from her super fun blog Girl In Air.
Photobucket
She is going to show us how to make some fun decoration blocks. These are super cute, easy, and very affordable!!
I love to change up my Home Decor with the Seasons!
BUT
I don't like to spend a ton of money....
These easy and inexpensive to make blocks are just my cup of tea!
Here's how to make and what you need:
Mod Podge and some paint.
Blocks
Did you know that Home Depot has a scrap bin???
I got a piece of wood for 51 CENTS!!!!
AND the BEST part is they CUT it for you!!
51 cents is so worth not having to beg the hubby to cut me some wood in his spare time:)
I used a wonderful 12x12 scrap page template from Heritage Makers.
I love them because someone already designed them and all I have to do is order a page!
I could have also added a photo but that's for a later date....I'm making decor blocks for each season with a picture of our family
They are about $3.95 and cheaper the more you buy.....
Here some other wonderful templates:
Cut your 12x12 page...
I used a matching color and painted the edges of each block..
Then glue each square with Mod Podge on front and back of each block....let dry and.....
Decorate!
I LOVE my new Halloween Blocks!
Four Decor Blocks for less than $4!
~Please check my blog for many MORE great ideas.~
Spooky Tutorial ~ Sara @ Sara's Organized Chaos
My name is Sara and I run my blog over at Sara's Organized Chaos. I also have my own little Etsy shop that is my excuse to keep spending money on craft supplies. Most of my projects come from recycled pieces so I throw almost nothing away. I've been married to my husband Matt for six years and together we have two ridiculously adorable children, Olivia (5) and Jackson (2). I work part time at a local college campus, I'm a full time mommy, overworked housekeeper and cook, and I'm a part time crafter. I've been making scrapbooks, cards, and frames for friends and family for years and someone suggested that I start an Etsy shop and so far, it's been a lot of fun. I don't have a ton of time left over at the end of my day to advertise myself out there so any sale I get is a big deal to me. I really think it's important to continue the tradition of hand written letters and cards and I think a gift should be more than just something you throw into a gift bag. And every gift should come with a handmade card. I'm always interested in doing projects to meet someone's needs so feel free to email me any time (slinkies_r_us@hotmail.com) to let me know if there is anything I could make for you!
Treat Bag Tutorial
Supplies needed:
1 – 12x12 pattern paper of any theme you choose
Ruler
Paper Trimmer
Stickers, stamps, or any embellishment to match your paper
Adhesive (only if you are using ribbon and not tying it)
Ribbon (optional)
Stapler
Clear cellophane bags (found in the cake decorating aisle at Michaels. Or you could even use Zip-loc bags but the measurements will be different)
Step One:
Gather all of your supplies. Use your paper trimmer to cut your 12x12 piece of paper into 4 x 4.25 squares. This will give you six toppers and you’ll have a left over strip of paper that you can use for another project . Before you cut your paper make sure you measure the cellophane bag you are using! Some bags are different sizes. I like to have a 2 inch topper (you’re cutting 4 inches because you need to fold it in half) but you can always make yours larger if you want.
Step Two:
Fold your squares in half. If you want to ink your edges with a stamp pad do that now.
Step Three:
I like to put ribbon on mine so that my embellishment has something to “sit on” so it doesn’t blend into the paper, but this is optional. I use my adhesive to adhere it to the topper, but you could tie it on as well, it’s up to you.
Step Four:
Add your embellishment. In this set I’m using a set of stickers that were only $1 at Michaels which makes this a cheap project. Other things you could use is a tag, a stamp, or just ribbon.
After that, you’ll want to fill your bags, slide your topper on top (the bag top will go between your fold) and staple on each side (two staples should be sufficient, but add more if you want). You could also sew it together if you can do that but I can’t sew to save my life. J
These are SUPER easy to do and you can get a lot done in a short amount of time. I’ve customized these for everything: to hold stocking stuffer candy, birthday party favors, Valentine’s treats, classroom treats, etc. And get your kids involved- if you use plain cardstock they could draw pictures on it, write their name, or they could even put these together with your help.
But in the event that you like them, just don’t want to make them or don’t have time- head over to my shop, http://scrapinsara.etsy.com and you can purchase what I have there or email me at: slinkies_r_us@hotmail.com and I can make a custom set for you.
*****
